Moving house is one of those things that can seem relatively easy in principle and then absolutely exhausting to execute.
You can think you have everything under control, only to find that there are bits and pieces that were left overlooked – which is, of course, completely normal.
Whether this is your first time packing up your life into boxes or you are a seasoned professional when it comes to moving around, these tips will help ensure you have everything covered to make the experience as least stressful as possible.

Put Your Home on the Market
If you are renting, you will need to give notice of your impending move to a landlord or your housing agency. If you know what area you want to move to and have chosen a home, it will be time to start proceedings on your home to give you plenty of time to sort everything out. The first thing you will need to do is look into house valuations from a trusted estate agency. This will give you a good idea of the additional budget you have for moving and what you can expect to get.
Start the Decluttering
If there is one thing you will notice when getting ready to move, it is how much stuff you have that you don’t need, use, or even want. Between the kitchen gadgets that have seen the light of day once and the several pairs of jeans that are four sizes too small for you, you will be surprised by the number of things you haven’t needed that are still taking up space in the home. And that isn’t taking into account the actual rubbish you are going to find that you will need to throw away too.
Book Your Removal Company
Don’t tempt fate when it comes to booking a removal company a few days before you are due to move. It is best to give as much notice as possible so you know everything is secured for the big day. The last thing you need is to try and shift things yourself, especially if you are not just moving down the road. Decluttering and going through your things should give you a good idea about how many items are going to be moved, which your chosen removal company will ask you for.
Swap Your Services and Personal Details Over
It can be easy to forget to tell your bank that you are moving or to get your mail redirected while you swap your addresses over. Make this a priority when it is the right time to do so to make your life easier during the change. TV licenses, electoral registration, council tax, and driving licenses will all need to be swapped over to your new address.
Don’t forget any phone services, internet, or satellite either!
Moving house can be stressful. Do your best to give yourself as much time as possible and make it easier for yourself at the other end!
