6 Creative Ways to Get Children Excited about Healthy Eating

Getting your children excited about eating healthy food is one of the major struggles of modern parenting. And it’s no surprise really, think about all the advertisements for junk food your children probably come across on a daily basis, think about all their friends at school munching away on sweets and chocolate during lunch!

It’s not hard to see why healthy food seems so unappealing to them! I mean, think back to when you were a child! Chances are, you weren’t so keen on the green, healthy stuff either. But as parents, we strive to make our children as healthy as we possibly can, and the easiest way to do this, is to get them just as excited about healthy eating as you are.

There are several ways you can do this – and trust me, they’re not as complicated as you might have initially thought. You don’t have to disguise things or use trickery – you just have to be honest and use a little parenting magic. So here goes…

    1. Get your children to help cook

Getting your children involved in the cooking side of food means that they feel like creators – and they are excited to try eating what they just made with their own hands! Cooking a healthy pizza is a great place to start (and a great way to ease them in). Make some healthy dough and get some low-fat cheese, and them ask you child to choose which toppings they want on their pizza. Allow them one meat (wafer thin ham is always a good choice as it is practically water) and then top up with lots of healthy vegetable choices. It works like a charm! And because your children know the pizza was made by them – they feel less scared of or wary of the healthy food.

    2. Always eat dessert

This sounds like a funny way of making children healthier – but if you start introducing fun fruit into dessert then the children will feel excited about it. Don’t just stick to boring apples and pears – mix it up a little bit. Try pineapple, raspberry’s, strawberry’s, star fruit and grapes – and make fun shapes out of them. Your children won’t be able to resist. It’s also a common fact that most children will be more open to fruit than they will be to vegetables – so keep this in mind if you child is particularly stubborn.

    3. Grow the vegetables and fruit yourselves

If you have a garden or even a window ledge, then you can be growing the good stuff. Give your children the responsibility of growing them, watering them, planting them and picking them and they’ll start to really get excited about the end product. Make a big deal out of it too – and when the veg or fruit finally emerges – have a big family meal to celebrate the cooking of the freshly grown produce! You child will feel proud and excited!

    4. Do the shopping together

Get your child involved in the shopping and you’ll see their interest in fruit and veg completely improve. If you currently order your food online (whilst it is convenient) it’s ruining the interaction that your child should be having with food. Take them around the super market at least once a month to look at all the produce, and even let them pick and choose anything that catches their eye. They’ll not only feel valued – but they’ll be excited to share their choices with the rest of the family!

    5. Do a cooking competition

If you have multiple children then arrange a week of cooking competitions where the most healthy meal wins… This is a great way to not only getting them thinking healthily, but also to get them excited and encouraged to make things healthy too. Most children love having a friendly competition against their siblings, but if your child is an only child then don’t worry you can still do this one! Just have them compete against you instead! It’s a really fun way of getting them to actively think about what they’re eating in a fun way.

    6. Get them to start a food blog

Getting your children blogging isn’t only a good idea because it means they’re writing on a regular basis – but it’s also really smart because it will encourage them to record what they eat and take note of it. You could make it a family project even – and you could see who has recorded the best meals that week!

  • How to Sell Advertising Space on Your Website

How to Sell Advertising Space on Your Website

Many marketers don’t know how to sell advertising space on their websites.

Which means leaving money on the table.

    It’s not that difficult though.

David Murton of Wireless Internet has some great ideas on how to sell advertising space, so I’m publishing his extensive guest post today.

An effective way to earn a passive income is to sell advertising space on your website, but it can be confusing for those with little advertising experience.

Advertisements are one of the easiest ways to make money online, but they often generate relatively little profit. To maximize your money-making potential from selling advertisements, you should familiarize yourself with the fundamentals of online advertising.

    Online Advertising Basics
There are a few different kinds of advertisement revenue models:

    Cost per Impression (CPM)
    Cost per Click (CPC)
    Cost per Action (CPA)
A CPM advertisement awards the host every time the advertisement is viewed. Alternately, CPC’s pay out each time the advertisement is clicked, while CPA’s award money when a user completes a special action such as filling out a survey or purchasing a product.
Each type of advertisement comes with its own advantages and setbacks, so choosing one that works for your website is crucial.

For instance, you must decide what type of person you plan on advertising to. The demographic you select should inform your decisions regarding what kind of advertisement you sell and whether it should come in text or banner form.

If you can estimate how much bandwidth you will need to handle extra traffic based on your demographic, you should select an advanced hosting plan that meets those needs.

You should also present some advertisements on your site before you actually start selling them, even if you must use mock-ups. Doing so shows potential business partners that you are already prepared to sell advertisements and have considered how you plan to do so.

    Visitors and Advertisement Profits
No matter how carefully you plan your approach, you will not earn significant profit from selling advertisements if your website does not attract enough visitors.

However, the level of traffic needed depends on the nature of your website, the likelihood of visitors clicking on an ad and how much advertisers will pay you per click.

An advertisement on an especially popular niche website can often generate $100 after a few thousand page views while an ad on a more general, less focused website may not see a comparable sum until the number of page views hits 50,000 or even 100,000. Consider where your website falls on this spectrum to best estimate potential advertising profits.

    Advertisement Format and Placement
Where you place an ad and the size and format you use can have surprising effects on how much profit the ads generate.

Current trends in online advertising see ads most frequently appearing on the top and right side of a page, although Google suggests that website owners place them directly under the navigation bar as well as on the bottom and upper left side.
Consider the layout of your website and pick a spot that provides visibility without becoming annoying to visitors.

The most popular format for advertisements is a thin, rectangular banner. The exact dimensions of a banner ad can vary, but 468×60 and 728×90 are particularly popular sizes.
After banner ads, medium and small sized rectangles are the common format, appearing in sizes such as 300×250 and 88×31. Again, you should plan the size and format of your ads based on the layout and design of your website.

    Advertisement Pricing
Figuring out how much you should charge for advertisements can be difficult. Expecting too much can prevent you from attracting any advertisers, while charging especially low rates can significantly cut profits.
Before you can easily settle on a suitable price, you should consider the factors that commonly determine advertisement costs.

Perhaps the most important factor is the number of visits that your website gets. A website that enjoys over 1,000,000 hits every month may be to able to sell a moderate sized advertisement for $1,500 while one that gets 300,000 monthly visits would likely be unable to sell the same advertisement for much over $500.

Factors such as a website’s Google PageRank, Alexa rating and RSS subscribers also affect potential advertising prices, generally serving to increase a website’s visibility and total number of hits.

Being the most authoritative website in a specific niche helps boost advertisement prices as well. Advertisements on a website with many highly-trafficked competitors is typically much less lucrative than those on a more targeted, well-regarded website.

    Crafting an Advertisement Page
Once you have prepared your website to start selling advertisements, you need to start making yourself known to advertisers and informing them that you have ad space available.

One way to do this is to simply contact your potential clients directly. Explain to them why your website is a good fit for their advertisements, detailing your website’s niche and the type of content it contains. It can also be helpful to contact your website’s competitors in order to understand their relationship with advertisers and gauge their ad pricing schemes.

You should not rely exclusively on direct contact to sell ad space, however. Consider adding an advertising page to your website that is focused on persuading potential clients to advertise on your site as well as providing them with useful information.
This page should begin with a description that provides a brief overview of the topics, concepts and goals involved with your site. The page should also plainly tell advertisers why they should buy your ad space.

Explain how your site can help target their advertising to a desirable consumer group. Make your unique visitors and page view data clearly visible to provide advertisers with a sense of your website’s traffic.

A good advertisement page should also include such information as available ad space, accepted sizes and formats, and pricing options. Be as exact and descriptive as possible. For instance, you could display a screenshot of one of your pages.

  • How to Attract Local Clients? You Should Know

How to Attract Local Clients? You Should Know

Probably because of its global character, many people wonder if you can attract local clients through the Net.

That would be very interesting for local stores or service providers, and even for big companies who just want to attract local clients for their local departments.

Michael Cash has a few great ideas about this topic, which he shares in his guest post below.

I’ll let Michael do the talking.
    Enjoy!
The Internet allows nearly any company or organization to conduct business internationally.

For example, consider the case of orb audio, which is a high-end home theater equipment company that was founded in 2003 in New York City.

In 2008, the company began to use Internet ads and country-specific web pages to market their products overseas during a time when the U.S. dollar was beginning to decrease in value.
Within 18 months, international sales rose from 10% of Orb Audio’s business to 35%, and they found themselves doing business in places as diverse as Australia, Finland, Zimbabwe and even Easter Island.

However, while going global is certainly advantageous, it is absolutely essential for a business to stay involved in the local sector. Business relationships with local clients can prove to be longer-lasting due to their personal nature.

A business can interact with local clients by conducting face-to-face meetings and by allowing the client to see their operations and meet employees. Strong relationships formed in this way can ultimately lead to more profit.

Many Internet companies have realized this, and sites like Groupon and LivingSocial have become extremely popular by working with local businesses to provide special discounts to customers in specific cities.

Your business can similarly thrive by attracting local clients through the use of traditional advertising and networking.

    Traditional Advertising

There are plenty of traditional methods for advertising your company’s services.
For example, you may have a company that specializes in graphic design, providing services such as logo creation and web site design. While you could certainly do business almost exclusively online, there are likely many local clients that would do business with you if they were aware of your services.

Some of the most surefire advertising methods include outdoor techniques such as:
    get local clients
    • Posting flyers around town
    • Setting up a booth at relevant festivals, markets or expos
    • Renting a billboard
    • Advertising on public transit

Getting a booth at a local festival or business expo can provide the most personal way to interact with potential clients. Sticking with the graphic design example, you could attend a small business expo in your area and personally show other business owners some of the web sites your company has designed, if the festival venue has wireless internet.

If you ran an office supply store, you would be able to attract local clients by allowing them to handle the actual products you sell, which is an option that long-distance business relationships cannot provide. Look for these types of social opportunities by checking with the local chamber of commerce.

Other typical forms of advertising include:
    • Local radio spots
    • Television commercials
    • Cold calls to potential clients
    • Sponsoring local school functions

These types of advertising can potentially give you the most local exposure.
Sponsoring a local sports team, school yearbook or music concert is a great way to advertise your company – especially in more rural areas.
If you offer Internet-related services, be sure to mention that your business is located in the area and is interested in helping local companies.

    Online and Offline Business Networking

Being in contact with other businesses can be a huge advantage when trying to attract local clients. The businesses can be clients themselves or they can refer their customers to your company if you’ve made your presence known.
For example, a business that sells networking hardware may have customers that need to get one or more web sites up and running in the near future.

If you’ve done some business networking, that company may refer those customers to your web design company for help. Offline networking tactics include:
    • Business card distribution
    • Joining local professional organizations or associations
    • Joining the chamber of commerce
    • Volunteering with non-profit organizations that could be clients

Of course, the Internet provides some excellent networking opportunities, even for networking with local businesses. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter can allow you to easily network as well as attract many local clients.

For example, Facebook lets you to list any networks that you are a part of (college, city, region), which in turn allows you to browse and contact any Facebook member or business in your local area.

A good way to gain some attention on a social networking site would be to offer special discounted rates/deals to people who follow your business. For example, the Hotel Max in Seattle, WA attracts local attention by sending out Tweets such as this:

    attract local clients

Other social networking sites such as Meetup.com and Foursquare have a very local focus, and it would be very advantageous to participate in those sites in order to network and attract local clients.

  • 4 Tips to Create a Successful Google Adsense Site

4 Tips to Create a Successful Google Adsense Site

Many people try to earn money online using a Google Adsense site.

Setting up an Adsense site is a rather easy way to create an income stream.

Yet many of these people don’t realize how to really create a successful one.

That’s where Internet marketer Neil Jones comes in. He wrote today’s guest post about the topic.

I’ll let Neil tell his story.
    Enjoy!

    Google Adsense site
There are a number of things that are key when building a successful Google Adsense site and most of these go against the grain of everything we have learned about affiliate marketing.

    It’s a numbers game:
When promoting a product as an affiliate marketer, you want a keyword that is easy to rank for and your goal should be to hit the number 1 spot.

When building a Google Adsense site, you want keywords that have a lot of searches every month but your goal isn’t necessarily to get the number 1 spot.
It should be rank above the fold for that keyword and many others.

When playing the numbers game you need a lot of traffic to make an Adsense site work and to find keywords and niches that have this traffic you are going to have to look at some of the more competitive markets out there.

    Keyword selection:
Affiliate marketers look for buying keywords, Adsense marketers look for information based keywords, which are usually easier to rank for.

Keyword selection is an important first step with either of these sites but they should be performed in different ways.

When selling a product you want to target people that are close to buying and then your goal should be to give them the final push over the line. This is often reflected in your selection of keywords which are often very specific, have a moderate monthly search volume and relatively easy to rank well for.

Adsense sites differ in that you need to target either a niche as a whole or a large sub set of that niche. By doing this you are ensuring that there are a significant amount of searchers every month and it will make it easier to write content on a wider variety of subjects and still remain relevant to that niche.

It is also important to have a good idea of the average CPC you will receive, you should be aiming for a minimum click value of .50 cent and obviously more is better.
Remember that this is split between you and Google, who stated that the revenue is split 60:40, we get the 60%.

    The website:
Affiliate sites are there for one reason, to sell a product and everything is targeted towards that goal, especially the sales copy.

Adsense sites are there to provide information to the searcher, in many cases getting clicks on your ads will come second to providing your readers with informative and useful articles.

For one reason or another most affiliate sites tend to be small, either they run out of stuff to write about or they have built enough landing pages to cover what they need.

For an Adsense site again its back to a numbers game, you goal is to build you site into an authority in your market place and the best way to do this is with a lot of content that is relative to your niche and keyword selection.

Playing the numbers game will also help your cash flow, having 100 pages that make you 50 cent a day is always going to be better than a site with 50 pages all making you 50 cents a day.

    Link building:
No matter which type of site you choose, building links is inevitable, they are simply a fact of life for any online marketer.

Where the 2 types of site tend to differ is that the affiliate will usually have a lot more manufactured or artificial links.
Whereas authority Adsense sites can have a much more natural feel because other sites will often freely link to an authority site that can provide its readers with more relevant information, this is not usually the case with an affiliate site.

Manual link building is still an important aspect of both sites but it Is much easier for an Adsense site to pick up links naturally. Adsense sites also fare much better when using their content as link bait.

To make a Google Adsense site work takes a lot of time, effort and content.

But it also has one big advantage: It can stand the test of time!

Article marketing to drive traffic to your website
Driving traffic to your website is crucial to every online marketing strategy. One of the best ways to generate web traffic is by creating numerous links back to your website. Article marketing is a popular method of bringing in new site visitors, but it has its own benefits and drawbacks.

    Article Marketing Pros

Almost all websites that publish articles will allow you to place a direct link back to your website either in the body copy or a separate author’s bio section.
Every link you build helps boost your website’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and increases your position on Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs).
Links on large article directories are usually online for a long time and provide a continual source of traffic to your website.
Writing articles establishes your credibility as an expert. People who enjoy your articles are likely to remember you when they are looking for a service provider in your field.
Articles with your byline help boost your name recognition as well as spread general awareness of your talents and expertise.
    Article Marketing Cons

Time spent writing articles takes away from time that you could spend creating content for your website or working on other parts of your marketing strategy.
Writing articles can be intimidating if you do not have a lot of writing experience and although many article directories have a less rigid editorial system than other user-contributed writing sites, many are adopting stricter quality guidelines.
If you don’t write your own articles, hiring ghostwriters can be very costly. You will have to evaluate whether or not the money you are spending on ghostwriters is showing an adequate Return on Invest (ROI).
Article promotion is an entirely different skill set you will have to learn and it is just as time consuming – if not more – than writing articles.
Finding ideas for articles can be difficult and frustrating, especially after you have already written dozens of articles.
Articles on directory sites often generate comments from users. If your article is not well researched or you don’t explain your point well, you can actually harm your professional reputation more than help it.
For most people the pros outweigh the cons, but everyone’s situation is unique.
You have to consider your own strength and weaknesses before you decide if article writing is a good marketing strategy for you.

If you are not comfortable expressing yourself in writing, or have poor grammar, there are better ways to build links and market your business online than article writing.

It is also important to realize that article writing is just as time consuming as creating content for your website. Good time management is essential. If you spend so much time writing articles that you are not creating quality content for your website, your marketing efforts will be in vain.
